Apropos a news item titled “SRU workers drawing huge salaries as compared to other govt department employees” published in Daily Times on May 31, the SRU has clarified that comparing the salary of an associate with an office assistant is unjustified as the required qualifications and job descriptions of both posts are starkly different.
It says that there is no comparison in the functioning and working of government departments and the SRU, as the latter works in a different capacity and dimension than the former. “SRU with its small, dedicated team is working on multiple reforms in collaboration with various government departments to not only conceive projects and take-on their implementation, including drafting legislations, spearheading their passage but also ensuring they are fully functional on-ground.”
The SRU says that the news item does not take into account the volunteer (unpaid) period served by each newly hired staff member at the unit. The unpaid internship period ranges from 7 months to 12 months where the performance of the interns is evaluated and a job is not granted based on internships but based on qualifications by undergoing a strenuous multi-step hiring process.
