LAHORE – A local court on Monday declared Mustafa Kanju, son of former state minister Siddique Kanju, absconder for not appearing in an illegal weapons case.
The court, initiating process to confiscate property of Kanju, sought details of moveable and immovable property of the accused. Judicial Magistrate Akram Azad passed the orders while hearing the illegal weapons case against Kanju.
During the hearing, the process server apprised the court that Kanju had proceeded abroad to avoid warrants. At this stage, a prosecutor submitted that after the acquittal in Zain murder case, the accused did not appear in the court to prove his innocence in the weapons case. He requested the court that Kanju be declared an absconder.
The court, approving the request, sought details of moveable and immovable property of the accused. South Cantonment police had registered a separate case of illegal weapons against Kanju after an unlicensed Kalashnikov was recovered from his custody when the police arrested him on charges of killing a young man Zain and injuring another.
